What Is Business Process Automation?

Business process automation, or BPA, is the use of software to run an entire business process from start to finish with little or no manual work. It covers the whole flow rather than a single task, coordinating the steps, data, and hand-offs a process needs so people step in only where judgment is required.

BPA maps a process into defined steps, then hands the repeatable ones to software. A tool moves data between systems, applies the rules that decide what happens next, and routes work to a person only when a step needs a human decision.
