What Is AI Orchestration?

Orchestration is the coordination of the many parts of an AI system, models, tools, data sources, and steps, into a working process that produces a result. It manages the order things run in, passes information between them, and handles the flow, so a complex system behaves as one coherent whole.

How orchestration works

Orchestration works by defining how the pieces of an AI system fit together and run. A single request might need several steps: retrieve some data, call a model, use a tool, check the result, then call the model again. The orchestration layer decides the sequence, hands the output of one step to the next, and manages decisions, retries, and errors along the way.

This coordination can follow a fixed path set out in advance, or it can be more dynamic, with an agent deciding the next step as it goes. Either way, orchestration is what turns a collection of separate models and tools into a single system that reliably completes a task.
